Predicting maintenance to prevent failure

KOKI already relied on ABB to support its welding robots with annual maintenance and rapid on-site repairs. To help the manufacturer anticipate its maintenance needs, ABB connected welding robots in KOKI’s Glauchau production plant to ABB Ability™ Connected Services for condition monitoring.

With ABB Ability™ Connected Services, KOKI is able to detect conditions in its robots that indicate potential issues. The system then alerts maintenance managers so they can proactively schedule maintenance to fix the issue before it can cause a failure.

Condition-based maintenance based on real-time data allows KOKI to prioritize and schedule repairs to minimize downtime. This data can also be used to prepare service experts by providing a snapshot of the system at the point of failure. In addition, connected robots can provide benchmark data to help identify and optimize underperforming assets.
